Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a highly specialized stretching technique used to aid the adjustment in restoring joints' range of motion by focusing on fascia, a type of connective tissue that covers organs, muscles, and other soft internal structures. When these structures become tightened and shortened, they do not allow for normal joint function. Therefore, the doctor will very often address the soft tissues along with the joints.
Soft Tissue Mobilization
This is done either by hand or with specifically crafted tools that scrape, push, pull and knead your muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves in precise ways to help bring you pain relief and return you to functionality. Being able to implement soft tissue mobilization techniques requires a significant amount of training in human anatomy and physiology and understand how manipulating the tissues will impact physical function. We specialize in evaluation, assessment and treatment of movement. Soft tissue mobilization is just one of the strategies that we use to help our patients meet their functional goals.
Post-isometric relaxation
Post-isometric relaxation (PIR) is a manual therapy technique used to relieve muscle tension and improve flexibility. It involves a gentle process where a muscle is first contracted isometrically (without changing length) against resistance, followed by a period of relaxation. This technique helps to reduce muscle tightness, increase range of motion, and promote overall muscle relaxation by encouraging the muscle to release and stretch more effectively. PIR is commonly used by chiropractors and physical therapists to treat various musculoskeletal issues and enhance mobility.
Ischemic compression
Ischemic compression is a manual therapy technique used to relieve muscle pain and trigger point discomfort. It involves applying sustained, direct pressure to specific areas of muscle tension or "trigger points" to reduce pain and promote blood flow. The pressure temporarily restricts blood flow to the area, and once released, it encourages increased circulation, helping to flush out toxins and promote healing. This method is often used by chiropractors and massage therapists to treat chronic muscle tightness, improve flexibility, and alleviate pain caused by muscle spasms or injury.
Stretching techniques
Chiropractors use stretching techniques to help improve flexibility, alleviate muscle tension, and enhance overall mobility. Stretching can help to lengthen tight muscles, reduce stiffness, and improve the range of motion in joints, which can be beneficial for patients with musculoskeletal pain or limited movement. By incorporating stretching into treatment plans, chiropractors aim to restore proper alignment, support spinal health, and prevent injury. Additionally, stretching can aid in the healing process by promoting better circulation and reducing muscle imbalances that contribute to pain and discomfort.
Active release technique/pin and stretch
Active Release Technique (ART), also known as "pin and stretch," is a hands-on soft tissue therapy used to treat muscle and soft tissue injuries. The technique involves applying pressure to a specific area of muscle tightness or scar tissue (the "pin") while simultaneously moving the muscle through its range of motion (the "stretch"). This combination helps to break up adhesions, release trapped tension, and improve the flexibility and function of the muscle. ART is particularly effective for conditions such as muscle strains, tendonitis, and repetitive stress injuries, and is commonly used by chiropractors to promote healing and restore optimal muscle function.
